Privacy policy
Introduction
This policy explains what information Recipe Keeper: Save & Cook ("the app") handles and where it goes. The app is made by Winton Gee ("we" or "us"). In short: there is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. Your recipes, photos, plans and lists are stored on your iPhone in the app's own storage and in your device backup. The Safari share extension passes one pending-import file to the app through the app's App Group. When you paste or share a link, the app fetches that page directly from the website, so that site sees the request. The only third-party service is RevenueCat (opens in a new tab), for purchases, which Apple processes.
Information stored on your iPhone
The app stores the following on your iPhone, in its own storage, and it is included in your iPhone backup. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your recipes: each recipe's title, source link, ingredients, steps, servings, times, tags and notes, and when you last cooked it.
- Photos: the photo that came with an imported recipe, or the one you added from your photo library. Photos are added through the system photo picker, so the app never sees the rest of your library.
- Plans and lists: with Pro, the recipes in your weekly meal plan and the items on your shopping list.
- Your settings: your theme and default servings.
- App state: whether you finished onboarding, and counters that decide when the app asks for a review.
Importing from a link
When you paste a link or share a page, the app fetches that page and its photo directly from that website, the same way Safari would. That website sees the request, including your IP address, under its own privacy policy. Nothing passes through a server of ours, and the app sends the website nothing about your recipes.
The app reads the recipe data on the page, shows you a preview, and saves the recipe only when you tap Save. Nothing you save is uploaded or published.
The share extension
When you share a page from Safari to Recipe Keeper, the share extension writes one pending-import file with the page address, and the page or text you shared, into a container that only Recipe Keeper and its share extension can read (the App Group). The app reads that file when it opens, shows the import preview, and deletes the file. Your recipes are never stored in the App Group.
Exports
Export all recipes writes a zip of your recipes and photos and hands it to the share sheet. Where it goes next, such as Files, a computer or a message, is your choice, and that place's own terms apply.
Feedback
Something wrong? Tell us, in the app's Settings, opens a mail draft addressed to us. The app uploads nothing: the draft is sent only if you send it yourself, from your own mail account, and we then receive it like any email, with your email address. We use it to fix the app and to reply, and you can ask us to delete it.
Purchases
Pro is sold through the App Store. RevenueCat is the only third-party service in the app, and it receives only purchase information. Apple processes the payment.
Apple sells Pro through the App Store and processes the payment. We never receive your payment details. Apple receives:
- Your purchase, under your Apple Account
The app does not send your recipes, photos, plans or lists to Apple. For how Apple handles data, see its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
The app uses RevenueCat to confirm purchases and to check whether Pro is active, including when the app opens. RevenueCat receives:
- Your purchase history and subscription status for this app
- An anonymous identifier the app creates on your device, which is not linked to your name or email
RevenueCat processes this data as our service provider and provides the same or equal protection of your data as this policy describes.
RevenueCat does not receive your recipes, photos, plans or lists. For how RevenueCat handles data, see its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
Information we do not collect
- No account or sign-in
- No server of ours: your recipes, photos, plans and lists are never sent to us
- No analytics or tracking
- No advertising
- No access to your whole photo library: photos come through the system photo picker
- No contacts, location, camera or microphone
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete one recipe: open the recipe and tap Delete.
- Delete everything: delete the app from your iPhone, which removes all the data it stored on the device. Copies in your iPhone backups, and any export you saved, stay until you delete them.
- Purchase history: your purchase record with Apple and RevenueCat is tied to your Apple Account and stays after you delete the app, so you can restore Pro later. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to provide and restore Pro and to meet legal and accounting obligations, and RevenueCat records are deleted on request to us.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you think a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
